Firearms Instructor Range Rental in North Texas: Run Your Own Class at Rooftop
If you teach for a living, finding a firearms instructor range rental in North Texas that actually fits your curriculum is harder than it should be. Most facilities write their rules around the least experienced person on the property and then apply them to your class too. Rooftop Shooting Range in Trenton, TX, about 25 minutes north of McKinney and 45 minutes from Dallas, rents private outdoor bays to outside instructors through a dedicated program with flat daily rates, and the terms are spelled out before you ever hold a date.
What Instructors Need From a Rental Bay
A rental bay is only useful if it supports what you teach. That means a bay held exclusively for your class from the moment it is booked, room to run draw, movement, and position work, and equipment you do not have to haul in. It also means a booking process that is clear about price, class size, and terms before you promise students a date.
Rooftop's tactical bays are outdoor, 40 yards deep, and private to your class for the day. You set the array, run the drill, reset, and run it again. The goal is to teach the lesson you designed rather than adapting it to a static lane.
Tactical Bays Stocked for Building Your Own Courses of Fire
Every tactical bay comes with paper target stands, steel targets, moveable barricades, VTAC walls, barrels, and competition walls. For an instructor, that means you can isolate a single skill on one array, then rebuild the bay into a stage-style problem after lunch without a trailer full of props.
Pricing is a flat daily bay rate that you pay, not your students. A tactical bay is $500 per day for classes of up to 14 students. Classes over 14 add $250 to the tactical bay rate and move to the range's largest bay so the group has room to work safely. There are no per-student range fees, and any additional student fees you charge must be disclosed in advance and paid before class day.
A 150-Yard Rifle Bay for Carbine and Precision Courses
Rifle instruction is where most North Texas ranges run out of room. Rooftop's 150-yard rifle bay is $750 per day at a flat rate, with tank traps and a PRS barricade for distance and positional work. Zero confirmation, holds at range, barricade transitions, and support-side shooting all need real depth to teach properly. If you run patrol rifle or carbine courses for experienced shooters, the added distance is often the deciding factor in choosing a venue.
Matching Your Course to the Right Bay
Pistol courses, defensive handgun progressions, and competition-style skills clinics usually belong in a tactical bay, where steel and barricades let you scale difficulty through the day. Run a morning of fundamentals on paper, move to steel for speed and accuracy standards, then close with a movement problem built from the VTAC walls and barrels. Because the bay is held for your class, you control the pace and can keep a timer running without anyone waiting on your line.
Rifle courses split differently. Carbine fundamentals can live in a tactical bay at 40 yards, but anything involving holds, zero confirmation past 100 yards, or positional work off a barricade belongs in the rifle bay. Some instructors book both on consecutive days for a two-day carbine to precision sequence, which is a straightforward way to build a premium course without adding venue complexity.
Law enforcement and agency instructors have a separate path for recurring qualification days through the law enforcement page, but a one-off training day for a unit starts the same way as any other class booking.
How the Outside Instructor Program Works
Every training date is coordinated and approved in advance so it does not conflict with matches, events, or in-house training. A 50 percent non-refundable deposit confirms your date, and the remaining balance is due no later than two weeks before class day. If a class is canceled, rescheduled, or fails to meet minimum enrollment, the deposit is forfeited and no further balance is owed, so confirm your roster before you commit.
You will also need valid liability insurance naming Rooftop Shooting Academy LLC as an Additional Insured, with proof sent at least 48 hours before class. Every non-member student completes the Rooftop waiver each day they are at the range. Unauthorized or unapproved training results in immediate removal and an indefinite ban, which is a point in the range's favor: the standard applies to every group on the property. Full terms are on the Outside Instructor Program page, and they sit on top of the general bay rental policy.
Rooftop also runs its own training under Andy Dang, a USPSA Master who trained under Mason Lane, Hwansik Kim, and Travis Tomasie, and Jenn Tang, a USPSA and IPSC competitor with multiple High Lady titles. Outside instructors work in the same professional environment, and the serious-shooter community here is described in more detail in our post on why Rooftop caters to advanced shooters and professionals.
Booking Your Class Date and Building the Next Step
Send your preferred dates, class size, and bay choice through the Outside Instructor Program page or call 430-499-0099, and the date is checked against the calendar before it is confirmed.
If your students want somewhere to test what you taught them, Rooftop hosts PCSL matches in 1-Gun Pistol, 1-Gun Rifle, and 2-Gun formats, which gives a class a natural next step. And if you want regular practice time for your own skills, membership gives you RFID bay access during regular operating hours, with weekend mornings until 1pm reserved for members.
