Fundamental Foundations 102 (FF102)
FF102 integrates movement with shooting. Understanding the relationship and balance between fundamentals and movement is key to performing both concurrently with success. This course expands upon core marksmanship principles by introducing movement fundamentals, positional control, and dynamic problem-solving. Students will learn to execute efficient entries and exits, maintain visual discipline while moving, and apply fundamentals in non-standard positions and varied start conditions.

Cost: $250 per student

  • Movement control and efficiency

  • Shooting while moving

  • Position entries and exits

  • Non-standard shooting positions

  • Single-handed shooting and manipulations

Subjects / Syllabus:

  • Movement Fundamentals: short to long distance movement, moving safely with a firearm, balancing aggression vs. control, mounted and dismounted movement, understanding effects on sights

  • Exits, Entries, and Positioning: getting in and out of position, establishing movement control for optimal shooting, reverse-engineering position entries, handling different target difficulties

  • Shooting on the Move: grip and vision during movement, upper/lower body independence, sight management, visual and physical tracking, sight confirmation while moving, optimizing body mechanics

  • Dynamic and Divergent Shooting Fundamentals: draws and reloads on the move, various shooting stances and positions, index and recoil management in different contexts

The firearm must remain fully concealed within the bag prior to the start signal unless otherwise specified in the WSB. Competitors must demonstrate safe firearm handling when drawing from off-body carry and may be subject to additional safety review by the Range Officer prior to the stage start.

When using off-body carry, the firearm must be secured in a holster within the bag that fully covers the trigger guard to ensure safe concealment and prevent access to the trigger while the firearm is inside the bag.

Key Skills / Learning Focus:

  • Transitions: large and wide transitions, predictive exits and entries, confirmation modulation, VOR transitions

  • Accessory Skills: single-handed shooting and manipulations, non-standard start conditions (surrender, hands on marks, turn and draw, table starts, etc.)

Training Philosophy & Diagnostics:
Students will build confidence in balancing precision with speed under movement. The class emphasizes efficiency of motion, economy of effort, and diagnostic awareness — developing the ability to self-correct and perform with control under dynamic pressure.

Equipment Recommendations:

  • Pistol, magazines, gun belt, magazine pouches

  • Ear protection and eye protection

Ammunition:

  • Minimum: 500 rounds

  • Suggested: 700 rounds

Attire / What to Bring:

  • Attire suitable for forecasted weather conditions

  • Plenty of hydration and snacks

Time Commitment: 9 AM - 5 PM

Please note that Fundamental Foundations is not intended for beginners. Students are expected to have completed a practical performance class, participated in a match, or possess a solid understanding of the requirements for competition shooting.

Non-Refundable / Credit Policy
All class fees are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend your scheduled class, your payment will be converted into a credit that may be applied toward a future Rooftop Shooting Academy class.

  • Shotcalling: sight lift, practical vs precision shotcalling, visual and physical feedback

  • Confirmation: predictive and reactive shooting, types of sight pictures

  • Transitions: types of target transitions, sector of fire, focal depth changes, stance changes

  • Draw: overhand vs underhand, intermediate draw positions, varied initial positions

  • Reloads: pouch placement, magazine indexing, reloads while moving

  • Single-handed shooting: strong and weak hand manipulations

  • Equipment: configuration and optimization

  • Training philosophy and diagnostics

Equipment Recommendations:

  • Pistol, magazines, gun belt, magazine pouches, ear protection, eye protection
