FFL & SOT/NFA Gun Transfers Near McKinney, TX

No. FFL and NFA/SOT transfers are open to the public. Members simply pay a discounted rate: $50 for FFL transfers and $75 for NFA transfers, versus $65 and $100 for non-members.

Transfers and fingerprinting involve paperwork, ID verification, and a NICS check that need dedicated staff time. We schedule every transfer and fingerprint/photo appointment in advance so your visit is quick and your transfer can actually be completed — we cannot guarantee walk-in service.

EFT (Electronic Fingerprint Technology) is the digital fingerprint capture the ATF requires for NFA Form 4 applications, including for each responsible person listed on a gun trust. We initiate your Form 4 here once your item arrives, and provide EFT fingerprinting plus a compliant passport-style photo for $65. We do not process Form 1 (individual manufacture) applications.

A valid government-issued photo ID for every appointment. For a standard FFL transfer, you'll complete ATF Form 4473 and pass a NICS background check. For NFA items, we initiate the ATF Form 4 transfer application here once your item arrives — once ATF approves it, you simply return with valid photo ID to complete the transfer. A Form 4473 and NICS check aren't required at that point, since your background check was already completed as part of the Form 4 approval.

No. We will only complete a transfer to the buyer named on the transfer paperwork. We cannot release or re-transfer an item to a different individual than the stated buyer, as doing so would violate ATF regulations.

As a matter of store policy, we do not exercise the FBI's optional three-business-day default proceed provision on delayed NICS transactions. If your background check is delayed, we will wait for an official Proceed response from NICS before releasing the firearm, regardless of how long the delay takes.

If a transferee is denied by NICS, the firearm cannot be released to them. The item will be shipped back to the transferor (the seller) at the transferee's expense.

The selling FFL ships it directly to our FFL/SOT address — we do not accept shipments or drop-offs from private individuals. Once it arrives, schedule your pickup appointment so we can complete your transfer paperwork.

No. We only accept firearms and NFA items shipped to us directly from another FFL. We do not accept drop-offs or shipments from private individuals, and firearms cannot be brought in and left with us in person — everything must come to us dealer-to-dealer.

Yes. We transfer pistols, AR-15 pistols, and other pistol-configuration firearms. Federal law requires the transferee to be at least 21 years old for these transfers, so we cannot complete a pistol or pistol-configuration transfer to anyone under 21.

Only a License to Carry (LTC) issued by the State of Texas qualifies. If you present a valid Texas-issued LTC, a NICS background check is not required for your transfer. We cannot accept an LTC or carry permit issued by another state in place of a NICS check.

No. Law enforcement officers and federal employees are not automatically exempt from a NICS background check simply because they are peace officers. If they do not present a valid Texas-issued LTC, they must go through the same background check as any other transferee.

As of January 1, 2026, the federal tax stamp for suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs was reduced to $0 under federal law. You still file a Form 4 and complete the same background check and approval process — there's just no $200 tax due. This is separate from Rooftop's own transfer fee ($75 for members, $100 for the public), which still applies.

Only if you are a Texas resident. Federal law prohibits a dealer from transferring a handgun to someone who does not reside in the dealer's state, so an out-of-state handgun purchase must be shipped to a licensed dealer in the buyer's own state of residence instead. This restriction does not apply to rifles or shotguns, which can be shipped to us regardless of the buyer's state of residence.

You must be at least 21 years old to receive a suppressor, SBR, SBS, or other NFA item through a dealer transfer, including transfers completed at Rooftop. An 18-year-old may only receive an NFA item through a private Form 4-to-Form 4 transfer directly from another individual, not from a licensed dealer.

We accept any form of government-issued photo ID that satisfies ATF requirements for Form 4473. If your ID doesn't reflect your current address, we'll accept whatever supplemental documentation the ATF permits to establish proof of residency.

We accept cash or credit card for FFL and NFA transfer fees.

Please pick up your firearm or NFA item within 90 days of arrival (or, for NFA items, within 90 days of ATF approval). Items not picked up within that window may be subject to a storage fee, and Rooftop reserves the right to return an unclaimed item to the shipping FFL.

Yes. Every responsible person listed on the trust must be present in person at the pickup appointment to complete the transfer.
